You have chosen a beautiful engage ment ring , the place and the time for the marriage proposal have been chosen, now all that is missing is a beautiful inscription for the engagement ring. In order for the ring to be particularly personal and individual, the piece of jewelry should be engraved to commemorate the couple, the big day or small insiders that the couple shares.
Whether personal, romantic or funny - the possibilities for an engraving in the engagement ring are wide and almost unlimited and so you can choose something very special for your partner or together.
It is important, however, that the desired engraving also fits into the ring, because that is the only thing that restricts you: the circumference of the ring. In addition, you can freely choose the text.
But what can you have engraved on the engagement ring? Does it always have to be a date or name or can it be more personal? What about emojis? Are hearts, smileys and other symbols feasible or are there only letters and numbers? And what about cheeky sayings? Can you do that or is it considered impious? We have the answers to your questions about the inscription on the engagement ring and give you ideas for an individual engraving.
Engagement ring engraving: yes or no?
Whether you want to have an engraving inserted in the engagement ring or not is up to you. It is a nice opportunity to give the partner some nice words on the journey together, but also to remind them of the love that has existed for a few years.
But if you don't want an engagement ring engraved, you don't have to feel compelled. Often an engraving is inserted at the wedding rings or the engagement ring is engraved as soon as it is repositioned and thus becomes a wedding ring. Everything is possible, you just have to decide what you want.
You should also ask yourself how important engraving is to you. Some rings cannot be engraved because they are too narrow. Or you can find the jeweler with the perfect engraving technique but no model that suits you. Accordingly, you have to consider beforehand whether the shape of the ring is perhaps more important than the individual engraving.
What types of engraving are there?
There are many different ways to engrave a ring. The techniques are different and adapt to the respective engraving request.
Here is a small overview of the types of engraving that are possible:
Diamond engraving is the most popular engraving technique among bridal couples in Germany. With it you can have different fonts and symbols engraved. Poems and longer sayings are also possible, since the engraver can be engraved very finely in two lines. In the technique itself, the metal of the ring is displaced with a fine diamond syringe so that no chips are produced. The engraving is very delicate and therefore has a noble look.
At AURONIA, diamond engravings are free of charge.
Laser engraving uses a special laser that engraves the engraving on the ring. Even the finest details can be implemented and the possibilities to engrave symbols, poems, sayings and more are almost endless.
An inlay engraving is an engraving in which the writing and image itself are made of precious metal and can be seamlessly inserted into a wedding ring. Gold is often used for this. For this purpose, the writing or the word is first removed from the existing ring, so that space is created for the inlay. A depth of up to 1 mm is removed so that the inlays are firmly seated in the ring. Now liquid gold is poured into the wells. Finally, the finish is applied so that the inlays are flush and cannot fall out.
With the inlay engraving you can design your ring individually from the outside. So that the rings do not melt when the hot gold is poured in, they must be made of gray gold or platinum. They also need a certain width and thickness. Therefore, if necessary, let yourself be shown only rings with which the inlay engraving is also possible.
Hand engraving is the oldest type of engraving available. Signet rings were already made in this way. The engraver works hands-free so that the engraving image can be influenced in depth. This can also create a 3-D effect. The light breaks very differently in the hand engraving than in other engravings. For a good result, the rings should be wide and thick. The more free space, the better. The thicker the ring, the more complex the engraving can be and the more depth it gets.
Select the right text for the engagement ring - the classic engraving
You certainly know the classic engraving from the engagement rings of your parents or your grandparents. If you held the ring in your fingers as a child and turned it back and forth, you could read inscriptions such as "In love", "Forever", "In all eternity" and the like. Often, the classic engraving also includes the names of the partners or their initials, the date of getting to know each other, pet names or the date of the engagement.
The classic engraving is often traditional and is based on earlier values. If you love tradition, want to do it the same way as parents and grandparents, or if you like classic love mottos, you've come to the right place. Latin engravings have also seen a real boom recently.
We have put together a few ideas for classic engraving in a list:
- Date of getting to know each other
- Date of engagement
- Names of partners
- Initials of the partners
- "Forever and ever"
- "Forever yours"
- "A life long"
- "In eternal love"
- "In infinite love"
- "One in the heart"
- "Every second with you"
- "My heart Belongs to you"
- "You are my most beautiful thought"
- "Omnia vincit amor" (love conquers everything)
- "Tempus fugit - amor manet" (Time flies - love remains)
- "Mea Fortuna" (My Destiny)
Choose the right text for the engagement ring - Foreign language sayings
Foreign-language sayings, poems, nicknames or expressions of love are also particularly popular. They are often used when one of the partners comes from another country and wants to bring something of his tradition into the marriage. It is often used in French, Italian, Turkish or Spanish.
Texts in English are also particularly popular. An "I Love You" has almost become the standard. Sayings, on the other hand, are more exciting, but also poems or specially composed words. Basically, you should always be careful with foreign language texts that they are grammatically correct, otherwise it can be embarrassing. So it's best to ask someone who is really proficient in the language and consult a dictionary again to be on the safe side.
Another option is to use various sayings and poems in old English, which are particularly popular with lovers of literary texts. Like "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare "Here is what love is ..." or "A Midsummer Night's Dream", also by William Shakespeare, "Love looks not with the eyes ...". So you can indulge in past times, great dramas and dreamy stories every time you look into your engagement ring.
- "I love you"
- "I love you"
- "Endless Love"
- "Forever yours"
- "True love"
- "Love never dies"
- "Forever together"
- "Today, tomorrow, always"
- "My love, my life, my friend"
Are emojis allowed?
If the lettering is there and there is still space on the ring, the engraving is often rounded off with a symbol. In the meantime, gears and hearts are hearts and intertwined rings. The infinity symbol, a dove, a heart with an arrow or a cross are also seen more and more often.
However, due to the popularity on social media, some would like to incorporate an emoji. There are probably no other images that are understood equally worldwide. With a heart you express your love, with a kiss mouth a kiss or with a grinning smiley approval. Emojis are often used to express what you feel in a short and concise way. Now the question arises whether this is also the case with engagement rings. Can emojis be incorporated into the engagement ring?
Basically, the different techniques of engraving allow symbols to be engraved. It doesn't really matter whether an & sign or a smiley is engraved. The only question is whether the respective jewelry retailer can implement it.

What fonts are there?
Of course, if you have found the right text, you are not only wondering whether your words can be supported with an emoji, but also which fonts are possible. The font should confirm and match the saying, the poem or the text. There are many fonts to choose from, ranging from simple to playful to romantic. Cursive letters with curved letters are just as popular as simple print that is easy to read. What you like best is chosen. AURONIA offers a 3D view in the wedding ring configurator, so that you can assess in advance what the font would look like with your engraving.
Have your own handwriting engraved for your loved one
In addition to the many predefined fonts, you also have the option of using your own handwriting. For this, your writing should be reasonably legible so that it can be engraved well. It is best to write the sentence, saying or poem that you want to have engraved on the ring a few times on a piece of paper and then take it with you to the jeweler.
The whole thing is then applied to the ring using the technique of hand engraving. Embellishments, handwriting, coats of arms and any symbols are also possible with this technique. The more complex the handwriting or symbols are, the more space must be available in the ring so that everything finds its place.
Engraving for partner rings - only perfect together
Partner engravings are 2 different texts that only make sense when put together. Similar to the partner tattoos, which are only held together to form a complete picture, the engagement rings are only complete together and the inscription can only be read. Life doesn't make sense without each other, and so does the engagement ring. Partner engravings are particularly popular with young couples. Examples of partner engravings are:
|Ring 1||Ring 2|
|"What we are…"||"… are we together."|
|"Two hearts…"||"… a hit."|
|"I'm going with you ..."||"… wherever you'd like to go."|
|"Love is…"||"... to have arrived."|
|"Searched and found…"||"... connected in love."|
|"With you…"||"… wherever you are."|
Everything about free marriage
Free marriages are on the rise. Individual, personal, emotional and beautiful - this is how a wedding ceremony should ideally look. In some cases, the celebration in the registry office is rather factual. It is seldom that the bride and groom are addressed in detail in the speech, instead they are rather general. A romantic wedding looks different for many couples. You want a little more empathy for love.
